Q - question

Associative dimensions in drawing views of a 3D model in AutoCAD.

A - answer With the AutoCAD command VIEWBASE you can automatically generate a set of drawing views (projections) from a solid 3D model. These views in a given layout can be then dimensioned in the paperspace, while the dimensions remain associative with the original 3D model.

When you subsequently change your 3D model, the dimensions update automatically. If any substantial change of the model geometry does not allow to keep associativity of its dimension, that dimension gets disassociated and you will need to re-associate it manually. Disassociated dimensions in the drawing sheet will display with a yellow exclamation mark.
