Q - question

How to convert border lines (rails) to a surface?

A - answer You got a pair of border curves (polyline, spline) defining a shape in 2D or 3D space - e.g. rails, sheetmetal band, paper strip, ribbon - and you want to convert them to a surface in 2D or 3D.

To convert a pair of border lines (approximately parallel) to a surface, you can use two methods:

1. The command RULESURF (ruled surface) - select the first and the second border line, AutoCAD creates a Mesh-type object. Round segments are approximated only.

2. The command SURFPATCH - first you will need to close both curves by drawing and JOINing the end segments. The resulting closed curve can be then used in SurfPatch in the Curve option (not Edge). AutoCAD creates a Surface object, including round segments.
