Q - question

Find a point in a 1/4 or 1/3 distance between two points (smart M2P).

A - answer The M2P (MTP) option (command modifier) on any coordinate prompt allows to enter a point in the middle of the distance between two points. But sometimes you will need to specify a coordinate also in a different ratio of distances to the given points or along a curve - e.g. divide in 1/4, 2/3, etc.

The CADstudio SEG2P utility is such "generalized" M2P tool. Just APPLOAD this utility and then type the transparent options 'seg2p or 'segcur on any AutoCAD prompt for point coordinates. Then specify the required segment ratio (distance).

Seg2P returns coordinates of a segment between two given points. SegCur returns coordinates of a segment measured along a selected curve entity (e.g. in 1/4 of its length).

Example:

_POINT
Specify point: 'seg2p
SEG2P> First point for segment: _
SEG2P> Second point for segment: _
 SEG2P> Segment ratio <0.5>: 3/4
(123.45 678.9 0.0)
You can enter the ratios either as "0.25" or as "1/4", "3/4", etc.

Make sure you have no OSNAP active when using the function - the resulting coordinate may get "snapped" to the nearest midpoint, endpoint, intersection, etc.
