CAD tip # 7219:
Question
A
Besides the standard AutoCAD function for 3-point alignment of a drawing to the specified geometry - the ALIGN command - you can also use more advanced alignment methods in mapping and aligning the vector geometry of maps.
The alignment to 4, 5, 6 and more points (the pairs of source-target points) can be easily accomplished with the function ADERSHEET (rubbersheet; Tools > Map Edit) in AutoCAD Map 3D and AutoCAD Civil 3D. In this command, you enter the requested number of source and target points, select the transformed entities and the program performs the requested alignment (a non-linear transformation).
Warning - due to the approximation of the results (coordinates), the precision of the original geometry may be lost. Always align geometry drawn the same scale as the target drawing.
