Modelling 3D knurling - e.g. knurled surface of a control knob.

A - answer Using the following procedure you can model a true 3D diamond knurling in AutoCAD - e.g. for a knurled surface of turning knobs. By choosing proper modeling parameters, you can influence position, orientation, depth and size/scale of the dents.

Please note, that the resulting model file can be quite large. If you don't need the true 3D shape, you can achieve a similar visual result easily by applying materials - using a bump map (relief map) Knurl texture.

And the resulting 3D DWG model for download in the CAD/BIM block library:
