Q - question

Exchanging letters with your HP printer?

A - answer HP network printers can send e-mail (or SMS) notifications (alerts) on supplies or service events - this is a known fact. But do you know that a number of HP LaserJet workgroup printers can also receive (read) e-mails?

The printer can react to an incoming mail and reply to the sender with the requested information.
Using the embedded web server (EWS) in HP network printers (with HP JetDirect) you can configure outgoing and incoming e-mails. Of course, you have to create an individual e-mail account for you printer. Point your web browser to the printer's web server and on the Device/Email page set the necessary parameters for the printer's e-mail account. On the Security, enable "Incoming mail".

Now you can communicate with your printer using e-mails (the printer checks it every 3 minutes). To the printer's e-mail address, send e.g. an e-mail with Subject:

this.configpage?configpage=email&format=html
or

this.configpage?suppliespage=email&format=html
After a while, your printer responds with a e-mail message containing the requested information about its status.
