To me it appears the direct modeling paradigm or dynamic model interaction has come to civil design.

We are introducing direct 3D model interaction in this new approach to allow users to optimize their designs in-canvas with intuitive interaction and dynamic feedback. We are also introducing design by flow grade in this approach. The flow grade is measured along the gradient of the surface, and is more suitable for designing parking lots and landfills. Flow grade allows the specification of maximum allowable grade which may be dictated by soil quality, design standards and ADA guidelines. Designing by flow grade and direction allows more control on drainage pattern.

Check out the Interactive Terrain Shaping technology preview and the videos.
http://labs.autodesk.com/utilities/civil3d_terrain/

This functionality is available since AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011, plus in all versions of the AutoCAD 2012 family. The DGN import allows to convert and use special linetypes which were otherwise unreachable in AutoCAD.

In shade mode if the walls were solid then the staircase would not be visible. A good way then is to have walls made from regions. As i have stated, in older versions, the back of regions were transparent so as you rotated the staircase the nearest walls were transparent and the far walls solid. This is a good visual tool. Unfortunately in 2012 both sides of the regions are solid hence the staircase is not visible. Is there a setting to amend this? Draw a region and try it yourself you should understand

RSS Feeds : Repair Block Authoring Palette

    Author: LTunlimited RSS
Subject: Repair Block Authoring Palette
Posted: 07.Feb.2012 at 10:19

Ever been a little hasty with the Delete key in AutoCAD LT? Sure you have. (We all have.) Normally a quick Ctrl+Z or the OOPS command will take care of you, but what if you've accidentally deleted something from the Block Authoring Palette? It happened to Dave recently, so he turned to the Autodesk discussion forums for help. (Yes, this post is also an ad for the discussion forums. They're fast, free, and peer-supported--with occasional input from Autodesk staff--so the responses you get are from the people using the product every day...just like you.) Within a few hours, Dave had his answer from Charles, a frequent contributor to the forums. "Right click a Parameter on that tab. Copy / Paste back into the Tab. Right-click what you just pasted.Choose Properties. Change the Type, Name, and Description as needed.Click OK." I'd never tried that, so of course I had to go check it out for myself. Who knew parameters had editable properties? Under "Type" you can choose any of the basic parameters, such as point, polar, XY, etc. "Grips" and "Actions" apply more to parameter sets, which are combinations of parameters (like point) and actions (like move). For example, the Linear Move parameter set suppresses one grip on the linear parameter and automatically applies a move action. With this knowledge, you can not only repair a broken Block Authoring palette, but even create your own parameter sets for the parameter/action combinations you use most often. Pretty cool!
Go to the original post...
