Please appreciate I am a beginner to AutoCad.

When drawing,  reducing the length of a line back to intersect with another line, typical I click on the line to be reduced, move my cursor back to the line I want to shorten or extend it to, and a little green x appears when I pass over the intersecting line, I click and the line shortens to the intersection point.

For some reason, out of the blue, I cannot do this on a drawing, a drawing I have been working on for days.  When I pass over the intersecting line, no green x appears, it’s as if the line wasn’t there. Now to confuse things further - it only occurs on some lines in the drawing, not all lines. To get around this - I have to use the “trim” option to reduce the length of a line - but that’s a pain.

Any idea on what’s happened?  Have I hit a button or feature accidentally?  I have rebooted the file, repaired the file, neither fixed. This happened once before a few months ago as well on a different file, I just lived with it then. I’m using AutopCAD 2012 Lite.

Anyone know what may have happened.

Appreciate the assistance

Isn't that green "X" the Intersection osnap?

What is the Z value of the two lines?

Yes and the z values of all lines are zero.

Again this only happens with some lines in the drawing, I checked the properties of these lines that appear to be phantom lines and they are the same as the line I am drawing. These lines are also all in the same layer, base layer 0.
Appreciate the assistance

WBlock everything out and insert in a new drawing.  That should fix it.
