The Point Of View (POV) Dispatch is our Autodesk internal newsletter, published monthly, where we discuss the big ideas that are important to us and our customers. It is published by our Corporate Strategy and Engagement (CSE) team of which Autodesk Labs is a part. I have shared articles from the POV Dispatch on my blog before, and I am about to do so again.

Trillions

Mickey McManus is Chairman & Principal at MAYA Design and is currently a visiting Research Fellow at Autodesk. He is a pioneer in the field of collaborative innovation, pervasive computing, human-centered design, and education; and he holds nine patents in the area of connected products, vehicles, and services. Mickey co-authored the widely respected and award-winning book Trillions: Thriving in the Emerging Information Ecology (Wiley 2012). At Autodesk, Mickey is exploring the implications for design, business, technology, and education of a future where computing ceases to be confined to any particular, "box," but instead is freely accessible in the ambient environment. Some call this coming age the rise of the Internet of Things (IoT) or the era of Pervasive Computing and characterize it as a time when atoms and bits combine to form a new kind of information ecology. As part of these explorations, Mickey has been wandering around Autodesk, asking questions, fostering conversations, learning by making stuff whenever possible, and digging deeply into Autodesk products and research initiatives, to learn (and to help us understand) where Autodesk is going, and how we can be an integral part in cultivating a future where innovators can thrive and their efforts are in essence "born trillions-ready."

In July Mickey had a post on his blog that I covered:

Read_mickeys_blog.

Mickey wrote an article for the September issue of the POV Dispatch entitled "There Be Dragons (Let's Go Over and Pet Them)." His article covered 3 topics:

  1. The Internet of Things (Or What Happens When Angry Dreamliners Come Home to Roost?)
  2. Simulating the Unexpectable (or Lie to Me)
  3. Collaboration Is Hard (or Scarce Resources In A Time Of Technological Abundance)

I feel these topics are important, so I got permission to share them with you on It's Alive in the Lab. To give each topic its due, I will post one topic per day over the next few days. We certainly look forward to your feedback as the information therein is intended to spur discussion.

I posted today's blog article so I don't have to duplicate the setup and background information on the other 3 posts.

Debate preparation is alive in the lab.
