    Posted: 03.Nov.2014 at 04:00

It was to be an orchestrated event. Product Line Manager, Brian Frank, approached me about our Design, Lifecycle, and Simulation division updating one existing technology preview and launching three new free technology previews all on the same day. So here they are:

First there is an update to Project Octopus for Robot Structural Analysis.

.

Project Octopus helps designers to easily develop user defined calculations that complement Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis Results. Project Octopus is fully integrated in Microsoft Office Excel as a plug-in and allows accessing data and results from an Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis model using simple Excel formulas.

For those who want to play with fire, there is Project Scorch.

Project Scorch helps users perform fire simulations within a structure. Project Scorch uses the NIST Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) to understand fire behavior within a building, such as smoke development and propagation, sprinkler behavior, and more. Project Scorch is a more efficient and easier to use front end for FDS from simulation set up and results exploration.

Project Gaudi lets Rhino users take advantage of Autodesk simulation capabilities.

Project Gaudi for Rhino provides a structural geometry generator and analysis engine for use as a Rhino plug-in for conceptual design workflows. A user is able to take a conceptual form as a Rhino mesh, add structural framing systems (trusses, beams, columns, etc.) to the form, analyze this system to see stresses and displacements, and then either return the geometry to Rhino, or send it to Robot Structural Analysis for further analysis and start their BIM workflow with Revit.

And last but not least, how would Robot Structural Analysis users feel about using the Dynamo technology currently found in Autodesk Vasari? Well that one's not ready yet, but is coming soon.

.

Dynamo Plug-in for Robot Structural Analysis will connect Robot Structural Analysis to Autodesk Vasari Dynamo. With this package, users will be able to leverage Dynamo for the creation of structural analysis models within Robot Structural Analysis.

So if you try one, eventually please try all four. I hate to break up the set. In fact, I have created a page just for these four:
