I could help you if 1) I could see the star and 2) if I had a copy of the DWG file.

Let me guess.  Instead of a solid model you end up with surfaces.  Is that it?

Did you know that if you extrude plain lines you end up with surfaces?

Did you know that if you use the PRESSPULL command instead of the EXTRUDE command on a profile created using plain lines you'll get a solid instead of surfaces?

An example.  2D star within circle using plain lines/arcs.  Cyan colored star was created using the EXTRUDE command.  Magenta colored star was created using the PRESSPULL command.  If you use the PEDIT command with the JOIN option to join all the arcs then EXTRUDE would result in a solid not surfaces.
