I have been asked to create this design but I have no idea where to start or even what it would look like. Is there anybody that could help me as It would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

A golf professional and caddies workshop is to be designed using sustainable materials. The designers have chosen a framed building with a curved roof. The roof is supported by timber purlins with cross section 300 mm x 50mm at 600mm centre to centre (C/C) resting on 11 glulam arches, spaced at 5500 mm C/C with a span of 28m and a height of 9m. The cross section of each beam is 800mm by 200mm. The roof structure is then supported by 3m high steel columns UC 305x305x283 fixed to a RC rafter slab.

a) Plot a plan view of the roof system consisting of the arches and purlins including axes and distances.

b) Plot a front view of the frame showing the height and the span of the members. Show the cross sections of the arch and the supporting columns with all dimensions.

c) Plot a detail of the connection between the column and the foundation assuming that the column is welded to a steel plate held by bolts to the foundation.

What is your level of CAD experience?
You have enough info to start, however:
"RC Rafter Slab"? Did you mean "Raft Slab"?
No plate supporting arch rafters?
No found. details?
I assume this is not a const. project, but rather an exercise?

Thanks for replying,
The brief that we were given is exactly the same as I have put in my first post. I'm a first year civil engineering student so I only have basic knowledge, it should be better but I have had to learn how to use it myself as our lecturerer has no idea how to use it.
We only have to make the design as you have said.

I hope you are doing this in 3D then extracting the 2D views from the 3D model.

Is that the best way to do it?

I haven't started on it yet because I don't know where to begin or what it should look like.

I guess we're doing this in 2D.  Start with the plan view of the roof.  Layout the arches and purlins.

Re: Raft slab.  Click on the link below for a good explanation of what a raft slab is and how one is constructed.

Re: curved roof.  I am assuming this is a "barrel vault" roof.  Are you familiar with this type of construction?

Yes I'm fairly comfortable with the terminology.

Well then, what are you waiting for?  Start with laying out the centerlines of your eleven main arches then move on to laying out your purlin centerlines.  This should not take very long.

Can we get an update on how your design is coming along?
