I keep getting the following error message when opening a drawing file:

One or more referenced files could not be located or read. What do you want to do?

>>Update the location of the referenced files (Displays the External References palette so you can update the locations of unresolved references)

>>Ignore unresolved references and continue"

The think is:  the drawing doesn't use the specific referenced file (I've already gone into the Xref Manager and the Data Link Manager and tried to delete the linked worksheet from Excel and it won't let me, It says its being used - but it isn't!)

When I'm in the Xref Manager I get the message:

"Data link selected: Cannot reload, detach, or bind."

What is going on and how do I delete or break the link, or pseudo-link?

I'd just WBlock out the drawing then test it to see if the same problem occurs when you open it.  Why keep messing around?

Another option I came across.  Copy/paste this into your command line then hit Enter.

(dictremove (namedobjdict) "ACAD_DATALINK")

Save then Close the drawing.  Reopen the drawing.  What happens?
