Elliott Rosenfeld is a Learning Content Developer at Autodesk. I got an email from him the other day. I thought I would share it with you.

Hi Scott,

I read this today and thought it was interesting, along the same vein as Project Commuter:

Read the article
.

  • "…Zendrive has mashed transbay.org data from 10 years of reported bicycle collisions with its own analytics, collected by using only the sensors on a driver's phone, to create a map showing where in San Francisco a bicyclist is most likely to have a collision with a distracted driver.

  • "Within the course of our work, we've tracked 1,100 drivers over 37,500 miles across San Francisco, and measured cell phone use while driving, among many other safety metrics such as speeding or rapid acceleration," according to a report on Zendrive's site.

The results show, not surprisingly, that the corridors favored by bicycle commuters — downtown, Panhandle/Lower Haight, SoMa, and the Mission are also the most dangerous.

Thanks,
Elliott

Thanks Elliot.

Alas our Autodesk office is near south of Market (SoMa) — actually we're on Market Street itself.

Using maps to encourage safe cycling is alive in the lab.
