You can use Google to search for a specific version DWG files - using this information:

So e.g. search for:
AC1006 filetype:dwg

All you need are two things.

1. A .DWG file (can be found here in the CAD/BIM Blocks > AutoCAD Drawing Blocks).  I suggest looking in the Architecture > Projects area and select one of the 2D floor plans as your initial sample drawing.

2. AutoDesk's DWG TrueView (can be downloaded for free from the AutoDesk website).

Open the drawing with DWG Trueview then do a "save as" to any of the supported file formats.

So easy even a computer science major from India, with a little help from another college student who is familiar with AutoCAD, can do it.  I'm sure you can find someone on campus or among your friends.

And you think there will be people who have .dwg files that go back that far just sitting around on a computer?  Dude, you are dreaming.

You don't have to know how to use AutoCAD to use DWG TrueView.  If you can install a program, find and open a drawing and know how to use the "save as" feature you can do the job.  You did not become a software developer for lack of brains.
