Project Kameleon is our free technology preview where you can try our new infrastructure model content authoring tools that are compatible with InfraWorks and AutoCAD Civil 3D. The technology preview includes a stand-alone .exe Parts Editor that enables authoring Inlets, Manholes, and Culverts. You can author Inlet Frames, Grates, and Underground Structures as separate part families and combine them to create Inlet Structure Assemblies. You can also author Culvert Barrels and End Treatments and combine them to create Culvert Assemblies. The part authoring workflow is tightly integrated with InfraWorks and includes the ability to post new part catalogs to InfraWorks models. Catalog conversion enables Inlet and Manhole Structure content to be used in AutoCAD Civil 3D. A built-in shape library allows you to author parts using an existing set of parametric shapes and supports extending the shape library using a stand-alone .exe Part Shape Modeler to author new Inventor IPT shape files that can be imported by the Parts Editor. JOIN the project Earlier this month, I got a new build from the team and posted it to the Autodesk Labs site for download. Product Line Manager, Ara Ashikian, let me know that this update has 2 changes: With this new build, the technology preview for the Parts Editor will operate until July 15, 2016. The Part Shape Modeler still operates for 90 days after installation. For new project participants that are using the Shape Modeler, this build has an improvement. From Shape Modeler, the user can now check the “Test in Revit” option from the Export Template dialog box. A Revit family version of the Inventor model is then created and a link to this file is presented to the user. This step allows the content author to make sure that an InfraWorks user that includes this Inventor component in a model will be able to successfully use the “Send to Revit” option. In some cases, when using the “Test in Revit” option, the user is notified that a Revit family could not be created. This usually indicates that advanced solid modeling capabilities found in Inventor were used that are not supported in Revit Families. Thanks, Ara.
