I have just started using MEP & can print a windowed view of my 3D design in model space but when I change to layouts it only shows it in a 2D plan view. Can anyone help please.

Did you try changing the view via the Home tab > View panel?  All the different views are listed in the drop down menu with "Top" being the default.  You do have to activate the viewport before you are able to change the view.
