Topic: TED: Riccardo Sabatini: How to read the genome and build a human beingPosted: 04.Apr.2017 at 04:00 |

This is a fascinating TED Talk. Who knew that moms were 3D printers? The eye opener for me was that if the human genome (the sequence of letters that make up a person: A, C, G, & T) was printed out on paper, it would occupy 262,000 pages; however, only about 500 pages make a person unique. The other 261,500 pages are identical for every human alive or from our past. Think about it. Ponder on that. The Autodesk Gallery at One Market in San Francisco celebrates design — the process of taking a great idea and turning it into a reality. With about 60 different exhibits regularly on display that showcase the innovative work of Autodesk customers, the gallery illustrates the role technology plays in great design and engineering. One of our gallery exhibits is about Life Sciences which showcases Autodesk's role in the world of bionano. Another is the Molecule Viewer where sophisticated 3D visualization, normally used for places and complicated things, can be used for the very small. It's great that Autodesk can make contributions in this exciting field of study. Our vision is to help everyone imagine, design, and create a better world. And in this case, "everyone" is not that different. Genomes are alive in the lab. Go to the original post... |
