Im trying to self learn 2d cad. Are there any free program downloads on here to allow me to practice?

Yes, there are.  I would recommend Draftsight by Dassault Systemes the makers of Solidworks.  There are a couple of others like NanoCAD for instance but DS would be the one I would use.  There is a free guide and a user's forum too.
