Topic: HOW TO CONVERT IPTPosted: 02.Dec.2008 at 21:53 |

OK I'm frustrated.
I designed a part as an IPT (Inventor 9). Now I'd like to have that part in a DRAWING file. Someone suggested that drawing files can be scaled for output. (see a previous post abbout scaling output) I can't be the ONLY person who would like to do THIS. ![]() Someone suggested a program from Autodesk that deals with DWG files. I looked at it. I didn't see anything about IPT files. Also if I want to be a computer programmer (the download is binary files that need to be compiled! Or some such nonsense!) I'd have taken classes. ![]() Right now I'm wondering if Inventor is just NOT a program worth dealing with. (I'm using on an associates machine to see what it can do(Inventor 9) Right now it is more frustration than anything. AutoDesk loses points in my decision to purchase!) There are other 3D programs out there. Can ANYONE tell me how to convert IPT files to SOMETHING that can be actually used and manipulated in another format. Now to see if any associates in town have Solidworks I can investigate! |

Your Autodesk Inventor dealer did a poor job implementing the software.
Inventor can of course do all the things you mention. Views of IPT parts and IAM assemblies can be put on IDW drawing sheets and scaled, plotted, annotated (using Inventor) and/or exported to DWG files - if you insist to use another CAD application.

That sounds like a non-answer to my frustrations.
I don't expect moderators to answer all questions but it might have been more helpful if you'd at least given a bit of a nod in the right direction or a hint. Maybe you work for AutoDesk? |

I am sorry but the functions you are looking for are so a basic functionality and principles of working in Inventor that I could only advise reading the documentation or attending a formal training. Maybe I have misunderstood your needs - if you need something else than making a 2D drawing of a IPT part or export a part to a DWG file, please rephrase your question. |
