Hi everyone,

Here is my scenario:  I am trying to design a virtual valley system model in AutoCAD 2008 (full) which is ultimately going to be used as the "bones" for a hand-drawn sketch.  I have designed the valley in 3D using 3D polylines, then created a solid surface using the 3D face command.  Everything went smoothly to that point and I have a nice looking drawing wtih solid surfaces that I'm quite happy with.  However, what my boss really wants is a 3D grid (10x10m squares or thereabouts) laid over the whole drawing so that when we print it off he can use the grid to scale his drawing (it is hard to interpret scale on the solid surface).  I spent a whole lot of time today looking for plugins and trying various techniques but to no avail, as most terrain or mesh software seem to want a point cloud, but all I have is polylines and 3D faces.

Help!  I can't spend much more time on this!

Thanks in advance.

I would try the 3DFA2SOL (Face to Solid) utility (see Download) or the DTM utility (meshing, see Download) and its command DTMPPT which extracts points from polylines.
