If you want AutoCAD to generate the contour lines then you will need Land desktop or civil 2009, or Civil 3D to do contours. Basic CAD will not generate those for you.

You can draft those and give elevations to that polylines so that they will work like contours. But yes, generation of contours through AutoCAD only is immpossible.
