I'm new to AutoCAD.  I have been around facility planners and have seen what this program can do, I just haven't run the keyboard and mouse.....until now.

I just downloaded a 30 day trial of AutoCAD 2010.  I have an existing drawing from a landlord of a warehouse and I am trying to put in all the dimensions between doors, wall lenghts etc.

I am using the linear dimension in annotate to select my origin and my endpoint.  I can see the dimension but I cannot get it to stay on my drawing, it just disapears when I click my mouse after locating the dimension to where I want it to appear.

Any help is much appreciated!

Dean

Is ACAD set to auto edit dimensions as you create them???

If so in order for the dimension to stay and not disapear you need to click OK in order for the dimension to stay.

Where do I find the auto edit settings?  I did search HELP but came up with nothing relevant.

Thanks.

I have looked as well but I could not find any settings that pertain to that option.

I am sure there is some way to turn that off but you might have to talk to an ACAD tech to find out quicker than here.

If the Power Dim dialog boxkeeps poping up here is how to get rid of it.

FromACAD

"The Power Dimensions are controlled by the CMDDIA variable, which is turned on by default. To keep the Power Dimension dialog box from appearing the CMDDIA variable needs to be turned off. I have placed instructions on how to accomplish this below."

To turn off the CMMDIA variable:

1.     On the Command line type CMDDIA, and then press the Enter key.

2.     Type in the numeral 0 (zero), and then press the Enter key again.

3.     The Power Dimension dialog box will no longer appear.

The layer was locked.  The lock symbol was "unlocked" but I went ahead and chose to "unlock" and tried it again and it worked!  I knew this would be something simple.

Thank you!
