i have an 2000 version of auto cad and rino 3.0 but i can not find how to open a .cad file. can you offer any help.

Try to exported files as *.dxf,.

they were sent to me as cad files so i want to if there is way to open and change them. ive also requested a change on the authors end.  im waiting to hear back from him. so in the mean time if i want to see the item then i will have to find a way to open the file.
