Ok, a friend has been helping build a computer and this is what we came up with. The two versions are like my past thread, AMD and Intel. I plan to run Civil 3D on this comp and maybe some other 3D programs in the future and while I know that the Intel seems to be the best I am also looking for some feedback on how you think the AMD would stand up to it.

very nice comp. amd sempron i think is just for gaming.........for me intel is the best for office and home

I've used AMD for some time. Nowadays, Intel Dual Core.
 
I prefer Intel.
 
Both builds look well built.

I struggle at work everyday because my boss insists on buying Dells. So tonight (and most Nights) I had to bring a project home with me because I could not plot PDF, DWF, PLT,or actual Paper without dropping layers or fatal error. My home system chugs right though these problems in fractions of a second no errors. Its getting to the point at work that i can't trim or pedit a golf course sized 3D map file without sending an email to AutoDesk about how 09 just puked on me. what system components do you think are the most important?

My home system:
    * Processor: Intel Q9450 Core 2 Quad 333x8
    * Motherboard: Gigabyte X48-DQ6
    * Memory: Mushkin XP2 Redline 8000 2 x 2GB 5-5-5-12
    * Video Cards: 2(xfire) Visiontek HD 4870
    * Power Supply: Zalman 1Kw Modular power supply
    * Hard Drive: 1 Seagate 1TB SATA 7500 rpm
    * Optical Drive: LG 20x DVD+/-RW
    * OS: Windows Vista Ultimate Edition (I know, I'm just waiting on the next sys failure to drop 7 on there)
    * 4 GB readyboost
    * Antec 1200 with enough fans to orbit a small     Coloradan kid

At the time it was the state but I cant convince my boss he needs a gaming rig at the office.

Sorry, I tried to hijack your thread. I thought I was posting my own. My current understanding is that best of the best CPU, MB chip sets, RAM, and cooling for those things yield the most bang for buck in a CAD workstation. however the only reason I was reading your post was that I was looking for answers too. I am no expert. My home rig crushes Map 3D '10 files that I wait endlessly on at work. Your new rig specs beat my 2 year old specs on my home hot rod even with my over clocking and mine gives me no problems with huge drawings.
