Used to full blown acad & 3d align on 2d objects dead easy.
Now have 2008 LT & at a loss.

Unfortunately AutoCAD LT does not contain the ALIGN function. You can emulated it with a series of Rotate and Move commands - see e.g. the LT Extension which uses a similar macro to perform Align.
