Hi Xueling 7,

If you don't know how it works I think it's better for you just to work exactly like you work in autocad.Of course it depends on what you have to do with cadmap funcionalities.Can you talk about why using map?

Hi Candidapires,
thank you for your reply. The reason why i want to work with Autocad Map is because I am told to work out the project using this software. I am given a map of our school and was told to do a project using the software. Can you please advise me what are some of the things I can do with the software?

Thank you

Hi Xueling7,

How are you ?

I must say I do not write in English very well, I’m brazilian,  so forgive me if you do not understand something…I’l try again, if you need.

The way you can use AutocadMap is the way you need to reach some results, let’s see:

  • if you work with raster images, maps, graphic and nongraphic data, you can work very well and linking maps to associated databases;
  • you can add data to maps and produce thematic maps with legends;
  • you can clean up maps, manage multiple drawings and multiple projects;
  • you can build polygon and networks topologies for analysis, queries, etc;
  • you can digitize maps, divide maps, work with attribute information, etc.

I’ll suggest you to find on line some free autocadmap manual (you can find it easily) and then avaliate if your work will be better done using all these resources, but in my opinion only having data to attach, topologies to analyse / build or any other result you need you should use autocad map. I think it is a very good software, but you should know what results you need,what kind of project you have in mind, before starting with it.

Good luck and e-mail me every time you need,

Candida

Hi Candida,

Thanks so much for your help. I have another question which I would like to clarify with you. Does the Autocad map allows users to conduct search or is there any functions which i can use to allow users of the map to conduct a search?

For instance, I would like to have a map that tracks the informartion of the students living in the respective blocks in the school dormitory. Is it possible to have a search function so that whenever i search for a students' name it will provide me with the information of the student and also to locate the exact location of the student on the map?

Thank you.

Hi xueling7,
The answer is yes, but first of all, you'll have to build database to attach at every students (a kind of excel sheet where you list all students reference - such as names and rooms -, after a topology has been donne in the way you can attach all these information to the drawings/maps).
After this you can make a query and find the room by the student's name or find the name by number's room.
Only users who knows how the project were done or works can access the information, not anybody generally.
Bye and hope this helps,
Candida

Hi xueling7

AutoCAD Map  is the leading engineering platform for creating and managing spatial data. AutoCAD Map 3D bridges CAD and GIS by providing direct access to data and enables the use of AutoCAD tools for maintaining a broad variety of design and geospatial information.

check your setting and other thing in autocad. also check your machine hardware capcity
