Hi to all!

I am new here and hope to be an asset to this community.

 

I would like to know if I could get some feedback from you all.  I am in the process of creating a site that teaches people how to create metal art, metal sculptures, metal furniture, etc. from a CAD program.  I have designed, programmed, and cut metal art for years now, and I would really like to teach people how to do it - from the designing stages to the end cutting procedures and finishes.  I would really like to teach people how to create their own original art and get people away from the cookie cutting CAD art that everyone has. 

 

With all that said, I would really like to get feedback to know if anyone would be interested in learning something like this and if so what types of things would you be interested in learning.  The reason I would like feedback is to see if this would be something viable that individuals would like to learn.  I would hate to waste a lot of time setting a website up, trying to teach something if no one is really interested in learning it.

 

Anyway I hope you can all take a moment or two and let me know what your thoughts are on this.

Art from CAD? aint that like an oxymoron? LOL JK ;)

Idunno man, your idea sounds great and well intentioned, but from my experience this site is strictly used for info/troubleshooting CAD programs.

I would suggest to go to post what you just did here to an art/sculpture forum/forums... alot of em, to get a better idea. They gotta be out there

That sounds cool but I think you would probably be speaking to a rather small audience. I mean, how many people even have access to the type of equipment that's necessary to do that sort of artwork. And the people that do have access to the right equipment probably already know how to do what they need to know how to do.

I would love to see some of your work though. If nothing else, you should put together a website to showcase your stuff. Then, as part of your site, you could have a tutorial/training section. That might be a good starting point. Then, if you get a lot of interest, you could expand on the training and go from there.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for your reply.  I can definitely see your point, however with the years of experience I have had creating metal art I can teach people the in's and out's of how they can get their art cut (laser, water jet, plasma), and the beauty of it is you would be amazed how much money you can actually make once you out source the cutting.  Your own machine is not required.

I recommend laser.  Very affordable and has an excellent cut.  Waterjet is more expensive and should be used for thicker material.  As for plasma,  I honestly really didn't want to try it, due to the sl*g, so I don't know a lot about how it would turn out.

There is a huge market out their and only a few know how to make good original art.  Believe me they get paid well for it.  I think that's why I would like to see more people know how to do this.  A lot of metal art silhouettes you see now are western metal art, and there is so much more that can be done with it. 

I use AutoCAD for 2D designs as it is much easier to work with for silhouettes and Autodesk Inventor for 3D projects like tables and sculptures.
