Im fairly new to autocad and have been working on a document for an assignment hand in tomorrow. Just realised that at some stage during the process the alignment of the drawing was knocked out, ie we were not looking at the drawing straight, so we have lines disappearing off into space in a 3rd dimension where they were supposed to be flat and it should all be in 2D... Is there anything I can do??

If you have express tools installed, you can try to use FLATTEN command.

OR....and this will happen to me alot...you inadvertently switched into 3D view. Just change your
DDVPOINT back to Plan View.
