Hi, I have AutoCAD 2006 on my pc. I have recently loaded 2010. When I go into my documents and open a drawing it opens in 2006 by default.

How do I get drawings to open in 2010 by default?

Thanks

Open Windows Explorer.
Navigate to a folder that contains a .dwg file.
Right-click on the file name.
Scroll down and highlight the words "Open With".  A flyout menu should appear with various programs listed (among them AutoCAD 2006 and 2010).
At the very bottom of the flyout click on "Choose Program".
At the "Open With" dialog box find and highlight AutoCAD 2010 then put a checkmark in the box where it says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file".
Click on the OK button.
Test it.
Did it work?

When I get to the 'open with' it only has 'Autocad application'. there is no choice of 2006 or 2010.

When i browse to Autocad 2010 it still does not select 2010

The icon for AutoCAD 2010 has a tiny "10" in one corner.  I know because I can see it right now as I look at my screen.  Try again.

I right click on the drawing and on the flyout i pick 'open with'.
> Click on choose programe. Auto CAd 2010 does not appear in the list so I click Browse
> In Programme Files on C drive I open AutoCAD 2010 and click ACAD.exe but the drawing still opens in 2010.

I just tested my instructions on a computer that has AutoCAD versions 2004, 2007, 2009, 2010, and 2011 and noticed that the icons for 2004, 2007 and 2010 are very different from each other.  Although it might say "AutoCAD Application" on the flyout if you pay close attention to the icons it should be very easy to distinguish between the one for 2006 and the one for 2010.

In the flyout there is only one autocad application and when i click on it 2006 starts up. The icon is the green 2006 icon and not the red 2010 icon with a small '10' in the top right corner.

i think i need to figure out how to get the 2010 icon on the flyout.

Thanks for your help so far.

It's unusual for the 2010 icon to be missing.

When did you install 2010?
