I have searched high and low. I cannot find an app or tool that takes a polyline that resembles a triangle or a broken rectangle and while keeping the joined endpoints in tact, aligns them to the x or y axis. In other words, I am drawing an end view or profile of a sheet metal piece and flattening it. Any ideas on where I could find this? It seems like a REALLY simple tool.

Then I have no clue what you are talking about. Even your thread title does not make sense when compared to your question. Post a drawing so we can see what you are trying to do.

I do not see anywhere to upload a file. I could only find the "insert image" button. I know it's hard to read but it wouldn't let me insert anything larger than three digits. Let me know where the upload button is and I'd be happy to upload a dwg. Thanks.
