    Posted: 30.Jun.2011 at 12:25

Hello everybody,
I'm writing to find help for a problem which I'm not finding solutions to.

The problem is:

Our Customer SW Autocad Mechanical 2010 cannot open certain files: these files are developed with Autocad 2010 by our external offices and then edited & saved with an LT version of Autocad 2010.

Autocad LT 2010 doesn't give any problem during file opening, editing, modifying, recovering, auditing and saving.

Same problem when opening the files (from AUTOCAD 2010) with mechanical without involving the LT version.

All the service packs for Autocad Mechanical 2010 have been istalled, but no solution has been found yet.

The message during the opening says "fatal error" (but the SW can read the file, behind the window drawing is visible).
Files are not corrupted.
All versions are correctly licensed.

Have anyone ever had a problem such the one described above???

Any solution, comment or suggestion??

Thanks in advance...

What is the full error message?

Could this be a problem specific to the computer itself (hardware)?

How many files are we talking about here?

I will post the entire error message as soon as our customer send it to me.

The problem involves all our coustomer's computers, so I do not think this can depend on the specific machine hardware or specific machine problem.

About ten files give the same result at the opening, all the files developed with Autocad 2010.

What steps have you taken to troubleshoot the problem prior to coming here and posting your question?

At first we tought it was a problem of the files themselves.

We recovered the files, we also copied and pasted the drawings on a new templates...without solving the problem.

We tried all the saving formats: dwg from 2000 to 2010 versions.

We also tried to save the drawings in dxf format...

We tried to operate on a single PC reinstalling autocad machanical and service packs but nothing has changed.

Is it possible to post one of the affected drawing files?  Maybe someone here could have a go at it.  You can delete portions of the drawing if you wish just don't purge the drawing.  Save under a new name such as "test".

Wouldn't there be some inherent problems if the drawing were created in Mechanical, saved, opened and edited in LT, then saved again?  This does not sound like a very good method to me.

First of all thank you John for all your kindly replies.

The error message is the following:

"FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x000c Exception at 4925e3f8h"

It is a bit difficult for me to send one of the drawings cause all of them refer to special technologies adopted by our Customer.

I will ask them the permission to post a drawing in order to find a quick solution.

A search on the error only turned up one other person, using AutoCAD Mechanical 2010, who had the same problem.  One responder suggested that the file was corrupted beyond repair.

Personally, I don't really care about what special technologies your customer's drawing incorporates I'm just interested in the problem.  Like I said, have portions of the drawing deleted so it is virtually unusable to anyone without the specific knowledge required to reconstruct it.  That's of course if they want any real help solving the problem.  The alternative is to draw it all over from scratch.  It's their choice.

By the way, are all your computers current with their respective AutoDesk updates?

Who actually did the drawings in the first place and why are they being shuffled between Mechanical and LT then back?
