Will downloading the current educational version of cad replace an older full version of cad on my computer? I would like to keep the older version, but my husband is taking a cad course and would like to download the new educational version.

No, you can install multiple versions of AutoCAD side by side. A newer EDU version will not replace (or invalidate) an older commercial license.
