I have recently installed Acad 2012 on my new computer and wanted to import the ctb files I am accustomed to use by copying them in the plotters file together with the standard ctb files there. However the program does not read them. What can I do?

Doesn't read them or can't find them?

What version of AutoCAD were you using previously?

I'm willing to wager, "can't find them", since he "used to use" them in the past, probably on another older version which he's now upgraded.

The new installation set a new search path.  Go into Options > Files > Printer Support File Path > Plot Style Table Search Path and make sure it points to your old plot style directory.  Or, move any of the old custom CTB files to the directory currently shown.  Either method will work.
