I just installed AutoCAD 2012 and do not have custom hatches.  You know the wood grain and barrel tile hatches etc.  Does anyone know how to install them?

You will have to find the hatch pattern definition files you want and fownload them to your computer.  Then you can either add the definitions to acad.pat or just point AutoCAD to where the files are located via Options > Files and Folders and the Support File Search Path.  The files can be individual or they can be grouped together in a custom .PAT master file.  Your choice.

The easiest way to find the location of your acad.pat file is to type the following on the command line then press the ENTER key:

Command: (findfile"acad.pat")

AutoCAD will return the path on the command line which will look similar to this:

"C:\\Users\\johnconnor\\appdata\\roaming\\autodesk\\autocad 2013 - english\\r19.0\\enu\\support\\acad.pat"

it didnt work.  I copied the whole directory where my PAT files were in 2011 C:\program files\autodesk\autocad arch 2011\contentpacks
and put it in the support file for autocad 2012.  then i went into options and added under support file search path the new location of the contentpack directory.  no luck... now the content pack directory has sub directories.  so do i have to add each one maybe???

What did not work?

Let me get this straight.  You are trying to use hatch patterns from AutoCAD Arch 2011 in plain AutoCAD 2012?

Is this a 32-bit or 64-bit computer?  Is your OS 64-bit too?  What about AutoCAD 2012?

my old autoCAD was windows xp 32 bit... the new 2012 is windows 7 64 bit.  i suppose this makes a difference... what now?  no the hatches that i had in 2011 are not coming up in 2012.

Yes, it does make a difference.  The path to the actual support files used is totally different for 32-bit programs than the one for 64-bit programs.

I suggested you run this command (findfile"acad.pat") in a previous post.  Did you do it or not?
