Autodesk was recently recognized by Newsweek in the Green Rankings as #21 among U.S. companies, and #6 IT & services for the commitment to sustainability across the entire company making Autodesk a truly green company. The annual Newsweek Green Rankings look at the largest publically traded companies in the U.S. and globally ranks them on performance in such areas as greenhouse gas emissions, waste reduction and management of natural resources. Autodesk performed particularly well in the Environmental Impact measurement, and stood out for its green building strategy, including LEED certifications; well below average carbon emissions; and detailed policy on green procurement. Being green does pose some major challenges for a large corporation especially with all the electricity required for data centers and computers, but the energy and materials savings, and knowing it is the right thing to do makes it all worth the efforts. Autodesk has for many years been implementing green and sustainability policies and practices and never did it to be trendy or for the recognition. From the big items right down to the small, top down to the bottom it is all important and reviewed for greening up the company. Here are a few examples: LEED certified Platinum buildings and green office spaces One of the most efficient data centers in the world Reducing business travel and the company carbon footprint Producing a public company sustainability report and having positions specifically tasked with managing sustainability policies for the company and our products Remote employee program Encouraging employees to use public transportation Employees using metal water bottles instead of disposable plastic and paper ones. Its not easy being green, but well worth it.
