I have a drawing with 100 blocks called 'tree' in it.

I have another drawing with a different type of tree block. it is also called 'tree'. This is a palm tree.

If I want to insert the 100 tree blocks with the palm and I insert the palm 'tree' into the drawing it takes on the characteristics of the original tree.

If I rename 'tree' (palm) and inseert it then I have to insert it in 100 different places.

Obviously I could explode the palm, cut, paste into new drawing, make a block, label it tree, choose update block, pick elements of palm.. and this works.

But isn't there an easier way, ie when I insert the 'tree' Autocad should tell me 'you have inserted a block with a common name, do you want to revert to the original block OR overwrite the original block OR cancel'

can this be done?? Acad 2005 BTW.
