Topic: Modify-Scale problems with dimsPosted: 30.Jul.2008 at 12:59 |
|
As a Site Engineer I frequently have to convert an architects drawing in mm to a different grid system in metres.
Rotate and Move sort out the grid position and <Modify -Scale> with a scale factor of 0.001 sets the drawing in metres. This frequently leaves me with a drawing masked by dimensions that are still at the old scale. I have altered the"Fit" of dims in DimStyles or properties (select and Rclick) with some success but it is both tedious and not always 100% effective. There always seem to be some dims that don't respond. Is there a better way?please, please tell me there is.

It depends on the dimension style(s) used in a particular drawing. Try to set the DIMSCALE value.

Thanks Vladimir. I tried DIMSCALE command as you suggested with some success. I've previously used dimscale overall and dimscale linear from the properties menu. Does this alter the same parameter in Autocad?
Prompted by your comment I looked up DIMSCALE in the help pages and I see that it doesn't apply to all dimensions. I think this could be why I can't fully solve the problem.
If designers kept dimensions on a separate layer they could be switched off en masse but they sometimes mix them in with the drawing layers.
It has just occurred to me that I can select each class of dimension through <Edit-SelectAll-Properties> then place them on new individual layers. Any that don't respond to DIMSCALE can be switched off.
Thanks for the chat.
