is it possible to plot a solid object in a layer that will look "realistic" or "conceptual" and not "wireframe".

how ?
 
when i try to plot a layout the "shade plot" in the "shaded viewport options" is inoperative
in  the plot dialogue box.
 
when i try the same in model space (not a layout) i may choose conceptual or realistic from
the "shade plot" tab.

First you assign a visual style to your viewport THEN you plot.
