im getting autocad 2009 for my home computer and at university they use autocad 2006

will all my files open and work on the newer CAD ?

AutoCAD 2009 can use new format of saving, which is not possible open in AutoCAD 2006. You can set format saving drawings in Tools - Options. I recommend format DWG 2000 or DWG 2004.
