Topic: Why does a 3D design slow down my PC? Posted: 08.Jan.2014 at 23:41 |
Whenever I am drawing using AutoCAD 3D, I face the problem of my PC slowing down, especially when I am rendering the surfaces of my drawing into realistic view. The more the items drawn using 3D the slower it gets till the screen freezes and then I get a prompt message on the screen saying that the problem has stopped off due to an unexpected error. THis has resulted in most of my design work not being completed on time. I have tried to seek help with computer experts on upgrading my PC perhaps, but I am still unsure if this is the right thing to do. What should I do?

First we need more information.
What are the complete specs of your computer both hardware and software?
How big is the file size of your 3D drawing?
What other programs are running in the background while you are working in AutoCAD?
Are you using xrefs?
Do you have hardware acceleration enabled?
Is the CommCenter disabled?
Has the drawing file been purged and audited?
I could probably come up with six more questions.

I might agree with the recommendation except the two programs mentioned above are more apt to affect the performance of the OS not AutoCAD.
Asyst: Maybe if you answered some of the questions I asked we could help you solve your problem.
Bottom line: there are many factors that can affect the speed of AutoCAD from missing or incomplete file paths to a bloated scalelist.

It would generally be Hardware of the PC. 3D is a lot more taxing on computers than 2D and the more textures, materials and parts you add the harder it gets. There are probably some options for speeding up usage by turning off certain features etc.
Otherwise upgrade your PC and make sure you get a CAD videocard.

I guess it really wasn't that big of a problem if Asyst hasn't bothered to reply since he first posted on 8 January. Without his input we can only guess at what the problem may be or the solution for that matter. Why waste our time?

You can use Krojam Cleaner. Krojam Cleaner certainly provides a powerful
tool and interface for cleaning your junk files and restoring your
computer to top performance.I tried it to its real good...

How do you know if Krojam is going to be of any benefit in this case if you don't know what the exact nature of the problem is? For all we know it could be an AutoCAD problem and not a Windows problem since the OP never mentioned having a problem with other Windows based programs.
