Is there a way to change the zoom extents so that the edge lines of my drawing are not right on the edge of the screen? Essentially have it zoom extent and then automatically a zoom .9x I believe with 2012 I zoom extent and then rolled the wheel out one and in one to achieve this but that no longer works. Is there a way to adjust the zoom in/out of rolling the wheel?

Yes, I need them to be different amounts, in vs out.
Or could set it at a small amount and then it would take forever to zoom into sections to draw or see details.

My mousewheel does exactly what you say you want yours to do and I have not changed any of the default settings. Were your experimenting at some point and maybe changed something without realizing it?

I think up to 2012 worked that way, I have 2013 now. It's an old habit that is now frustrating!

I have read recently in the Autodesk Discussion Groups that this *was* changed (I hesitate to call it fixed) in 2013. In all prior versions there has been a slight zoom factor difference between zooming in and zooming out with a scroll wheel that has nothing to do with the ZOOMFACTOR system variable. But in 2013 the Autodesk programmers decided to "fix" it so that now the scroll wheel will zoom equally in both directions. Go figure. Many had not really noticed it much before... but I ran a quick test with 2012 the other day and sure enough! There it was.
For the OP I would suggest creating custom views now. With those you'll always get exactly what you want. But that old behavior is gone as long as you continue using 2013.

 Thank you for your help. You both confirmed what I had thought.With a little research, I was able to create a new command and put it on the "Quick Access Toolbar". I created a custom icon for the button and the macro zooms extents, then zooms .93x. Instead of double clicking the wheel, I click on the icon.

Using Inventor 2013 today with a drawing. Double click the scroll wheel and it gives a view of the paper slighltly smaller than the visible window. WHY? WHY can't AutoCAD work the same? Why do I have to change the setting so the scroll wheel will scroll in/out the same direction as AutoCAD?Thanks for letting me vent! Have a nice day, all.

The only way to ensure that things in your program never change is to never upgrade. Unfortunately, the temptation is often too much. This is not why I've avoided the 2013 upgrade so far. I am not yet convinced that it is fully downward compatible or stable. I think we need to see a hotfix or service pack update or two before we can trust it. Dave. ------------- Dave Hein, P.E.
