Q - question

Inventor templates for models, assemblies and drawings.

A - answer The templates offered by Inventor when creating new parts (.IPT), assemblies (.IAM) and drawings (.IDW, .DWG), are by default located in the folder C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2011\Templates\ (and its subfolders Metric and Imperial).

If you place your own files into this folder, they will be offered as templates (standards) when creating new Inventor documents - the same way as the standard templates standard.ipt, standard.iam, standard.dwg, sheetmetal.ipt and other.
