Q - question

Viewing 3D models from Navisworks in PowerPoint presentations.

A - answer You can insert a 3D model from the coordination application Autodesk Navisworks (included in some Autodesk Design Suites) to your PPT/PPTx PowerPoint presentation and interactively rotate and zoom the model during the presentation. For this you need a Navisworks ActiveX component installed on the presentation computer.

Steps to insert and view a Navisworks model in a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation:

  1. Switch on the Developer tab in MS PowerPoint
    • right-click anywhere on the ribbon and choose the option "Customize the Ribbon":

    • enable the Developer tab (Vyvojar in CZ):

  2. In PowerPoint, go to the slide where you want to display the model and in the Developer tab, choose "More Controls" (hammer):

  3. In the dialog "More Controls", select the control "Navisworks Integrated Control" (all installed versions are shown) and confirm by OK:

  4. Draw the border for displaying of your model:

  5. Right-click on the drawn area and choose the Properties option:

  6. In the Properties control, add the file path to your NWD file (published from Navisworks) in the field SRC:

  7. Close the Properties dialog. In the running presentation, the respective slide loads and displays the 3D model - and you can view it interactively (the control functions are available on mouse right-click under Viewpoint > Navigation Mode):

For the above described functionality, you need to have Autodesk Navisworks Manage or Simulation installed, in the same bitness version (32/64) as your Microsoft Office.
