Q - question

Automatically set the Author property in DWG files.

A - answer If you want to automatically set the field "Author" in your drawing properties (see DWGPROPS) to the name of the person who laste saved the respective drawing file, you can use the PreSave reactor. The property "Author" can be then used e.g. for searching in the Windows Explorer, in Vault or in other PDM system.

The Windows login name of the person will be used as the Author name.

Download the add-on application CADstudio PreSave from Download and add it to automatic loading for every drawing (e.g. using the briefcase icon in APPLOAD, through ACADDOC.LSP, .MNL etc.). Before using its advanced functions you need to authorize the application with the CADSTUDIOREG command. As a first-use operation only, set the option "Fill Author property" in the settings dialog (PRESAVE command) and confirm it with OK - all further functionality of the PreSave reactor is fully automatic.

On each drawing save in AutoCAD, the Author property in the DWG file will be automatically filled in.
