Q - question

Avoid name collisions between AutoCAD font- and symbol files (SHX).

A - answer AutoCAD DWG drawings may behave incorrectly (missing symbols in linetypes, missing texts) when containing text styles and symbols (including complex linetypes symbols) pointing to a single .SHX file.

Be careful when using generic names for your customized font- and symbol files - e.g. "Civil.shx". Text styles (STYLE) and references from linetypes (.LIN files) should not point to a common SHX file. Any SHX file is either a font file, or a symbol (shape) file - never can a single shx file contain both of these. Pointing to a single file indicates a conflict and such drawing may behave erratically.
