Boolean subtraction of 3D mesh objects in Meshmixer.

With the free application Autodesk Meshmixer you can subtract two 3D solids or create their boolean intersection. It is necessary that the objects' geometry is watertight (solid).

Load both mesh models into Meshmixer (e.g. from the STL or OBJ files) and use Edit > Make Solid to convert them to "solids". Place the solids (Edit > Transform) relatively to each other.

Select both solids (first the main one) in the Object Browser window and select Edit > Boolean Difference. Confirm parameters in the Difference palette and click on Accept. This will confirm the subtraction.

Save the resulting solid into the OBJ, STL, WRL, 3MF, DAE or PLY format file.
