How to hatch area defined by border points, not geometry?

The standard AutoCAD command for associative hatches works with automatically detected spaces between existing border objects (line geometry).

If you want to hatch an ad-hoc area, not defined by existing geometry, you can use the command-line version of the hatch command -HATCH. Its option _draW allow to specify the hatch area simply by repeated sequential clicks of its border points (vertices) - as if you draw the border polyline. Optionally you can keep the border polyline or just the resulting hatchure.
