How to hollow out a 3D solid body in AutoCAD?

A - answer If you need to make a hollow body from a standard full 3D solid in AutoCAD, use the function Shell.

Run the command SOLIDEDIT and its option Solid > Shell. Select the source 3D solid to hollow out and choose (with Ctrl-pick) the face which will be removed from the closed solid (through which you will "dig"). Then specify the thickness of the shell of the future hollow body.

Depending on the selection of the face, the resulting body will look something like that (the back face, or the bottom face selected, bottom view):
