Q - question

How to insert a block from another DWG file?

A - answer The command INSERT inserts (references) blocks defined as internal in the current DWG drawing or blocks written with WBLOCK to separate (small) DWG files. But if you need to insert one or two blocks from a large external DWG file (a standard drawing or a block library), you will need to use DesignCenter (Ctrl+2), or you can make use of the InsertX utility.

The free LISP utility InsertX (see Download) prompts to select a DWG drawing and displays a dialog with a list of blocks defined in it. The selected block will be copied and inserted into the current drawing, similarly to the standard INSERT command.

Load the application with APPLOAD and start the insertion with the INSERTX command. The command respects the setting of the FILEDIA and CMDDIA variables (command-line version).
